Why is our cause important to you?

 

As part of our eco-forward design principle strategy, we started working on a special edition smartwatch using recycled materials – the recently launched Amazfit T-Rex 2 Ocean Blue (Special Edition). And as the launch timeline was close to World Ocean Day, we felt inspired to reach out to Coral Guardian to see if we could support them in their cause of reef conservation, as it aligned with our sustainability vision.

 

What worries you most about the current state of coral reefs ?

 

We understand that coral reef destruction is a global problem, perpetuated by several conditions – some of which include water pollution, floating trash, microplastics, coral harvesting, and climate change. We also know that, in some regions, there are fishermen who still practice the use of dynamite or blast fishing, although it is deemed illegal, to make it easier for them to catch more fish.

Reefs make up an important part of our global natural environment – for fish stocks and maintaining a clean ocean ecosystem as well as helping people to earn their livelihoods who rely on tourism and fishing. Reef structures play an important role as natural breakwaters, which minimize wave impacts from storms such as cyclones, hurricanes, or typhoons.

It is important for all of us to come together to protect our natural environment as it serves both our human and environmental needs.

 

What gives you hope for the protection of coral reefs?

 

Education is a key driver in unlocking awareness of how fragile our eco-system is and companies such as ours are able to use this partnership opportunity to educate our organization and consumers on how they can be part of the solution.

 

How is your company involved in protecting coral ecosystems?

 

As part of the partnership between Zepp Health and Coral Guardian, and in honor of World Ocean Day, we are donating $10 USD for every Amazfit T-Rex 2 Ocean Blue (Special Edition) sold, which will go to supporting Coral Guardian’s restoration project in the Hatamin Marine Protected Area in Indonesia.
